Easy Steps to Fix Windows Registry

If your computer is running slowly, and you're getting tons of error messages and system crashes, then chances are you have a problem with your registry. Follow the steps below to fix your problem.

1. Determine if a Corrupt Registry is the Problem

It could be that you don't need to repair your registry at all. Your computer may be infected with a virus or spyware. So before messing with your registry, run full system scans with your anti-virus and spyware scanning software. Repair any problems they find.

If they don't find any problems, or if your problems persist continue to step 2.

2. Back up your Windows Registry

Anytime you do any kind of repair work to your system, it is a good idea to back up your data. When working on your registry, you should back up your registry. There are programs, like RegCure, that will back up your registry automatically before fixing the errors it finds. If you want to back up your registry yourself follow the instructions for your version of Windows.

3. Fix the Problems With the Registry

Manually fixing the problems with your registry is not a simple task. It is often impossible to determine which entries are corrupted. It is not recommended that you edit the registry keys a values unless you are abolutely sure you know what you are doing. If you make a mistake, your computer could be broken beyond repair. Unless you are a professional, it makes much more sense to use a program like RegCure.

If you are using Windows XP or Vista, you should first try using a system restore point. Choose a point in the past when you were not having registry problems. If that doesn't work then you have a few options.

First, you could edit the registry keys/values yourself using the Registry Editor. As mentioned above, this is dangerous so be careful. Or better yet, don't do it!

Second, you could hire a professional to do the work for you. All they're going to do is charge you a lot of money for doing what you could do yourself by choosing the next option.

Third, you could download RegCure. It will back up your registry, find the problem and fix it in minutes.

The cheapest, and smartest, option is to use RegCure of one of the other fine registry repair products that we have reviewed on this site.
